1960
KERA’s “Little Red Schoolhouse of
the Air” offered educational programs on news, education, music, arts and culture — for all ages.
1970
KERA TV was the first station in Dallas to feature an African American woman in its nightly newscast, Marjorie Welch Fitts Louis. She joined PBS icon Jim Lehrer, Bob Ray Sanders, Lee Cullum and more on Newsroom.
1974
KERA was the first TV station in America to air Monty Python’s Flying Circus, and is credited for trailblazing the comedy’s success in the United States.
KERA News 90.1 launches, serving Dallas, Fort Worth and Denton with a mix of news and music programming.
1995
KERA expanded its property on Harry Hines Blvd. and built a new facility, thanks to a generous donation from an anonymous foundation.
2000s
Thanks to the land gift, KERA was able to expand and grow its essential services, including launching Think with Krys Boyd, Art&Seek, KXT 91.7 and more.
2020s
Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, KERA embarks on tremendous growth, including welcoming WRR 101.1 and the Denton Record-Chronicle. KERA also launches partnerships with The Fort Worth Report and Dallas Morning News, and more.
